Thanks for the feedback, Stuart. I have to agree with you on both counts. I saw some feedback recently, to the effect that Islam welcomes (even encourages) marriages between Muslims and others, as it provides concrete opportunities to draw others into the faith and show them the beauty of Islam (note that I am not a fan of the kind of Islam that predominates today).
I see that as the reaction of a mature, confident faith, whereas our working assumption is that both partners and their offspring are now lost to Judaism. That is the reaction of a hesitant, insecure faith, only too aware of how little binds many to Judaism today.
Once we start to see that sort of welcome extended to the non-Jewish partners in interfaith relationships, we’ll know that Judaism has arrived as a vibrant, confident and outgoing faith.

Jews are commanded to increase and be a light to the Nations. Most of us take that Mitzvah seriously. But the Orthodox minority are arrogantly above all that. They point fingers and say, "We are the only keepers of the Truth, while the Conservatives and Reformers are hurting Judaism". If anything, it is the puffed up pride and hatred of the Orthodox that are hurting Judaism. The Orthodox excommunicated Maimonides and the Baal Shem Tov. They excommunicate Abraham Abulafia and Dov Baer, arguably the greatest Jews of their times. Today they are represented by the influence peddler Abramov, the swindler Boesky, the child abuser Chen, the murderous bigot Baruch Goldstien, and the sex addict Netanyahu.

As in the days of Yitzak, Yaakov, Moshe, and Ruth, intermarriage makes it possible for us to increase dramatically, and shine our light for all the Nations to see. Engagement with the Nations makes it possible for us to become that light to the Nations the world so badly needs - the very purpose for which HaShem made us a holy people.
